Y-Musical Theatre – Frequently Asked Questions
Q- What do the young people do at Y-MT?
A- They sing, dance and act! They develop their confidence, make new friends and learn new skills. They can work towards group and solo certificates and they get to perform on the YMCA Theatre stage. Above all else, they have fun!
Q- How do we enrol?
A- Just give us a call and we will take some details to see which class is most suitable. If there is a space available in the class, you will be able to get started straight away, otherwise, we will add you to a waiting list and let you know when a space becomes free.
Q- Which class is right for me/my child?
A- Classes are arranged primarily according to age, with individuals’ abilities being taken into account at Sophie’s (Y-MT Leader) discretion.
Class 1 – 3-5s: 9.45am – 10.30am Class 2 – 6-8s: 10.30am – 11.30am Class 3 – 8-10s: 11.30am – 12.30pm Class 4 – 10-13s: 1pm – 3pm Class 5 – 14+: 3pm – 5pm
Q- What should I/my child wear for Y-MT?
A- We try to keep things simple, so students are all encouraged to buy and wear a Y-MT T-shirt. We are currently changing the way these are obtained, setting-up a system where they can be purchased through an online shop. Other than the t-shirt, comfortable trousers/leggings and supportive footwear are required. Strappy/revealing tops, skirts and dresses are not considered suitable.
Q- How often do students perform on stage?
A- Y-MT generally perform on the YMCA Theatre stage two or three times each year, usually in February, June and September/October.
Q- How can parents get involved?
A- Parents can help with promoting the shows, sourcing and making costumes and prop’s. We also need parents’ help during the rehearsals and performances to ensure things run smoothly backstage. There are opportunities for year-round volunteering at the YMCA – please just ask if you would like more information.
Q- How do I get tickets to see the performances?
A- Tickets are available from our Box Office in person or by phone (506750), or online via the Theatre pages of our website.
Q- Can I take photo’s/video of the performances?
A- Audience members are not permitted to take photo’s or video at performances, however, we generally have the performances professionally recorded and DVDs are available to purchase from reception.
Q- How does Y-MT communicate with students/parents?
A- As the Saturday sessions are always busy, they are not a great time for us to answer parents’ questions, as this takes us away from the classes themselves. We have our own Facebook group, which students (over the age of 13) and their parents are encouraged to join. We use this group to send out messages, updates and requests for help. For safeguarding purposes, we also prefer to use this system for direct messages.
Q- Do I have to pay for the first session?
A- No, we offer the first session completely FREE.
Q- How much are the monthly charges?
A- For the period October 2019 – September 2020, the fees are:
Class 1 – £13.13 Class 2 – £15.00 Class 3 – £15.00 Class 4 – £18.75 Class 5 – £18.75
Q- How have the monthly fees been calculated?
A- To keep things simple, monthly fees have been calculated on the basis of classes being offered for 45 weeks in the year, divided equally by 12 months. The actual amount payable will depend on the class attended and may change if the class attended changes during the year.
Q- How are the direct debits set-up and processed?
A- We will provide you with a link which will take you to the system we are using, which is called GoCardless. This is all set-up and managed online.
Q- What if I can’t or don’t want to pay by direct debit?
A- Direct debit is the most efficient method of payment. It saves a lot of time for staff, parents and young people, so it is our preferred payment method. If you are unable or unwilling to pay by direct debit, we can accept payment by cash or credit/debit card, but the month’s payment must be received no later than the first Saturday of the month.
Q- What if my payment is late?
A- If a student’s fees are not received by the 10th of the month and no communication has been received, we reserve the right to offer their space to someone else.
Q- What if I/my child starts classes part-way through the month?
A- The first class is always free of charge. If there are then weeks left before the start of a new month, payment should be made by cash or credit/debit card for the remaining classes of the current month. The monthly direct debit must then be set up via the GoCardless link for the relevant class(es) in time for the next full month.
Q- What if I/my child miss/es one or more sessions?
A- No refunds will be given for any classes missed, regardless of whether or not we have been informed of the absence in advance (though we really do appreciate as much notice as possible, especially in the run-up to performances). There is a limited number of spaces in each class and the payment reserves the space.
Q- What if I/my child want/s to take a break from/stop classes?
A- We will require one full calendar month’s paid notice. Unless the place continues to be paid for, your/your child will forfeit the place in the class and will need to contact us to re-book when you/they wish to return.
Q- What are the GoCardless links for each of the classes?
A Class 1 – https://pay.gocardless.com/AL0002G5T94VGT
We can email you the link for the relevant class.
Q- What if I have other questions?
A- For questions regarding enrolment or payments, please contact Jennie Aston on email@example.com. For any other Y-MT related matter, contact Sophie Brown by email on firstname.lastname@example.org, or message her via the Y-Musical Theatre Facebook group.
