Meet The Artists
I attended Bodywork Theatre School throughout my childhood, excited by and exploring many different genres of performance including classical and contemporary ballet and jazz, tap and musical theatre. I have never lost the enjoyment in learning different and new ways to perform and use my body, so I have over the years collected and developed other skills such as ballroom, circus skills, acro-balance, and biomechanics.
In 2008 I completed a BA (Hons) in Performance Theatre at York St. John University where I specialised in collaborative devised work and theatre-making. I then went on in 2010 to complete an MA in Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance at York University looking at more classical styles.
2010 also saw the launch of Six Lips Theatre, an experimental contemporary theatre company, of which I am one of three artistic directors and founders. We regularly perform our work at theatres and festivals all over the UK.
I love working with different community groups and have been teaching dance, drama singing and musical theatre for over 10 years all over the North, with young people and adults of varying needs and abilities, with performing arts academies, youth theatres and charities including The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts, Kirkham Henry, Derwent Danceworks, Duck Egg Theatre Company, Upstage Centre Youth Theatre and York Mind.
I am a member of the NATD and train students for Arts Award, LAMDA, IDTA and Trinity exams.
Hi! My name’s Georgie and I’m super excited to be running your workshop this week. I’ve worked in the performing arts industry for nearly 9 years now and have had some amazing opportunities along the way. Some of my most memorable experiences have been creating work alongside the Donmar Warehouse and Clean Break (you should check these theatre companies out if you haven’t already heard of them-they’re amazing!) as well as running an intensive week of workshops at Central School of Speech and Drama. As well as teaching drama, I am a trained dance teacher and run weekly dance fitness classes, when we’re not on lockdown of course… I’ve had the pleasure of previously working at PQA York and Scarborough, and will no doubt see some familiar faces! I look forward to working with you all.
Hi I’m Jenny, and I’m very excited to be teaching a dance workshop virtually for the YMCA!
Dance is my speciality and after training locally in Scarborough and studying for my diploma in Musical Theatre I went on the perform in production shows, on holidays parks and in touring shows around the country.
I now work with adults and young people on a weekly basis with my own school in Scarborough, Jeneration Dance, and also as the Choreographer of the YMCA Productions.
I love to pass on my knowledge and help others develop their skills and talent within The Arts.
Hello everyone! My name is Kirsty and I’m a youth theatre practitioner, a storyteller and a performer.
I spent every weekend, every evening and every school holiday from the age of eleven at drama and performing arts classes which is where I made brilliant friends, grew in confidence and where my passion for Theatre began. At the age of sixteen I went on to further my training with the National Youth Theatre. Here I worked with some excellent companies including Trestle and Complicite and went on to perform with Complicite at Battersea Power Station and Mill Bank Studios London. I’ve got a first-class degree in performance practice and I’m currently studying for a masters in applied theatre at the University of Leeds.
I work as a youth theatre practitioner, running and directing youth theatre productions across Yorkshire, as a storyteller and of course a performer! I also work as the audience and outreach co-ordinator for Dark Horse Theatre; we train actors with leaning disabilities, making and touring professional work nationally. I’m also the Comedy & Drama teacher at The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts in Scarborough and York.
I spent many years running my own theatre company Procter Goblins, we liked to create work in unusual places like above pubs, shops and even antique centres. Shows were always physical, raucous and brash and normally involved some form of audience participation. Productions included, A Christmas Carol, Scenes from a Teenage Killing and Grimm Up North.
I’ve developed my own style of practice through my experience of working with young people, sessions are inclusive, silly, physical with a real grounding in pure actor training.
